"Johan, turn on the radio", Yes mum but why? I answered. "Because there is important news". "We are at war with Germany and all children over 5 must be evacuated immediatly" the radio announcer said.. The next day me and my mum started packing and we only allowed to pack 5 things. Food, water, clothes, a toy and a gas mask.
A few weeks later at the train station I hugged my mum goodbye. I felt like someone had ripped out my heart. So then I waved my mum goodbye and suddenly I realised that there seemed to be hundreds of children being evacuated on the train too. It seemed like an eternity but eventually we got to a train station in the countyryside. It was really quiet until an angry looking old lady appeared and told us to follow her to the village.
When we arrived in the small village it was peaceful. I wondered what my new family would be like...
