WHO IS NELSON MANDELA?

Childhood

Rolihlahla Mandela was born 18 July 1918 in a small village called mveso. His name in Xhosa (say x-osa) meant troublemaker his favourite sport was stick fighting he was very good at it. In 1927 his When nelson as we call him now was 7 he went to school he wore and ripped shirt some of his dads pants and put string around his waist so his pants would not fall down. As English people ruled the country at that time, he had to get an English name that was Nelson. Father Galda henry mphakanyiswa died when Nelson was 9. In 1943 Nelson Mandela becomes a member of the African National Congress (ANC). In 1944 Nelson Married Evelyn Mase they had 4 children 1 of them died as an infant. Sadly they separated :(

  

Prison

If Nelson Mandela and his group were found guilty, they could be sentenced  to death but was only going to prison for 5 years instead of death. 1962 went to prison for 5 years but ran away elegy Nelson got captured in the year 1964. While Nelson was in prison his son died in car crash, his mother also died that means that he would not be able to attend their funerals. In 1998 Nelson Mandela was moved again to a prison called Victoria Verster, but instead of cell he was given a cottage with a bedroom, a kitchen and a swimming pool.

PRESIDENCY

Nelson Mandela came out of prison because the president died and the new one let him out. When the president that let him out died they needed a new one so nelson tried for the new president and consequently won and is now known as the first black president of South Africa. On his 80th birthday, Nelson Mandela married Graca Machel, the widow of the former president of Mozambique. He now has a Nelson Mandela day on the 18 of June every year but he is 92 now and is quite old a new president of South Africa is coming.
